A couple days off

The beehive in downtown Wellington
To the left you'll see the New Zealand parliament building - one of the many governement buildings i've been delivering mail to for the past month... Unfortunately the cushy courier job has now ended. It could only last so long I suppose, but I have to say i'm a little sad to see it go. Walking around all day downtown and getting paid well to do so was pretty nice. I'll be in Wellington for about a month more while i save up a little more money to do the south island and hopefully make it to Australia by the end of May. Then home! I only have 2 months left - I honestly can't believe how fast these past nine months have gone.

As i'm in between jobs right now and since Adam was in town we ventured up to the Chocolate Fish Cafe on Monday, which was supposedly one of the big hangouts of the Lord Of the Rings crew. Getting to the Chocolate Fish required a 20 minute bus ride and a half hour walk, which was about as close to the water as you can get and had a unique vibe. After the effort of getting there we were rewarded with a chicken, cranberry and brie panini sandwich, which every single cafe in the Wellington area is required to put on their menu.

Canes v Cats

The past three weeks I've been a courier. I run packages between different government buildings, including parliament, for the Ministry of Justice. It's an easy job, I get to walk around downtown for half the day and it's not your typical desk job. So basically it's not bad at all. At night, when i find the energy I also do some catering. Hopefully after 2-3 months of doing this I'll have enough to do both the south island and get to Australia for a week. After checking the exchange rate lately, I've decided it's better for me to spend all the money I make here than to bring any back with me to the States.

It's actually a great time to be in Wellington right now. There are two artsy festivals going on, The Fringe Festival, and the International Arts Festival. Both have stuff going on all over town and a fair amount of free things to see as well. The other night I actually catered an event for the opening night of one of the bigger shows, an acrobat show where you sit beneath the net and watch the show directly above you. All the shows are expensive, but I might try to make it to that one

In addition to the arts festivals going on right now, there's also the Super 14 tournament, a rugby tournament between the major cities in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. So last Friday I attended my first rugby match between the Hurricanes and the Cats. Good game, Great atmosphere, Canes won... not much else to write about now, so here's the pictures:

Oh yeah, and I went to the zoo too. here's a meerkat.
